Baby's evening meal: we answer all your questions
And 1, and 2, and 3, and 4! Around 8 months, we change the rhythm to 4 meals a day. Breakfast, lunch, snack, dinner: it's time to take stock of baby's evening meal (before a good night's sleep).

When to start dinner?

As is often the case with babies, there's no definitive rule that works every time (with a spoon). When it comes to weaning, it's just like walking or talking: children progress at their own pace. Broadly speaking, we can still tell you that you'll start dinner with your baby around 8 months. The goal: prepare a good, balanced dinner that meets the recommended daily intake.

“WHO SLEEPS DINES…”: MYTH OR REALITY?

If your baby is hungry, you'll know it! On the other hand, if your child falls asleep before even swallowing their first bite or if they're not feeling well, there's no point in forcing them! At their age, dinner isn't essential. So if they want to curl up with a bottle, or just fall asleep in your arms, let them do it and tell yourself that there are days without and days with!

WHAT IS THE IDEAL DINNER MENU FOR AN 8-MONTH-OLD BABY?

Between 6 and 12 months, there's no question of giving up milk: it's still the mainstay of your baby's diet. However, you'll be able to juggle between milk, cereals, vegetables, fruits, meat, fish and eggs. For the evening, it's like at a restaurant, there are always several options: you can start with a breastfeed or a bottle followed by a small vegetable purée with cereals or starchy foods (it also works the other way around) or go all out with the bottle by adding some Good Goût organic infant cereals . If after that, your child is still hungry, pull out some organic fruit compote. In addition, since our pouches are resealable, it will avoid waste: if baby chokes before the end, you just screw the cap back on and put the mango pouch back in the fridge.

ARE THERE ANY RECIPES SPECIFICALLY FOR EVENING?

Yes! At Good Goût, for example, we've been working on a Night Cereal recipe, ideal for the evening ritual. Its secret? A blend of organic cereals specially designed for little ones and beneficial plants (Roman chamomile and silver linden). Prepared as porridge or added to a bottle, our Night Cereals have been tested and approved by Morphée!

ARE THERE FOODS TO AVOID IN THE EVENING?

While there are no prohibitions, there are indeed foods that are best avoided, such as meat or eggs. In fact, babies are just like adults: if they eat too much in the evening or if they have trouble digesting, they won't necessarily have a great night's sleep (a bit like us, when we regret having had three servings of tartiflette around 2 a.m. and skipped the salad).

DAIRY PRODUCTS IN THE EVENING: GOOD OR BAD IDEA?

Until your baby turns 12, follow-on milk or breast milk will remain on the menu every night. Baby milk products, such as formula, will be included after your child reaches 12 months.
