Important Notice: Breast milk is the ideal, natural food for every infant: it is best suited to their specific needs. When using infant formula, when the mother cannot or does not wish to breastfeed, it is important to strictly follow the instructions for preparation and use and to follow the advice of the medical profession.
What did you say lacto? Lactopontin!
Often called osteopontin, it is one of the 5 most abundant proteins in breast milk 1 and is also present in other bodily fluids (blood, saliva, etc.) as well as in bones. 2
The LPN* content in breast milk is very high after delivery, then stabilizes 1 month later at around 65mg/L and drops only very slightly thereafter. 2
Why is lactopontin useful in baby nutrition?
Among the factors that influence the development of babies' immune systems, diet plays a central role. It is partly thanks to nutrient intake that the natural defenses of little ones will progress. 3
And as nature is well made, we find in breast milk certain proteins linked to the immune system of our babies. 4
Among these proteins, LPN* is known in the scientific literature to play a role in the development of babies' immune systems: it helps white blood cells learn to defend themselves against external attacks. 1.5
What if I don't breastfeed my baby?
Don’t panic! Cow’s milk also contains LPN*, with a structure that is 75% similar to that of breast milk. 2
Although the concentration of lactopontin is lower in cow's milk than in breast milk, a technological process allows LPN* to be extracted from cow's milk as a separate ingredient. It can then be incorporated into infant formulas**.
In one study, lactopontin supplementation in infant formula was found to reduce the incidence of fever episodes by half compared to a standard formula (without added LPN*). 6
Consuming infant milk enriched with LPN would thus allow the immune system to develop more closely to that of breastfed children . 6
Breast milk as a source of inspiration
Inostime, the new generation infant milk, with a unique nutritional profile and high quality**, is the first infant milk containing added lactopontin in France.
