How to get your baby to drink water when weaning?
Have you started introducing fruits and vegetables into your baby's diet, but they're having more trouble drinking water? Here are a few tips to help you get your baby to drink water during the weaning process…
In summer, your baby needs to drink more water.
First of all, no stress! When you start introducing solid foods , even if your baby begins eating solid foods, they won't stop drinking milk (400 to 500 ml per day), which is itself made up of water! Furthermore, fruits and vegetables are naturally full of water, as are the baby foods prepared from 6 months onwards (water from the vegetables + cooking water). Remember that all foods contain water, except for sugar and oil!
But it is true that in summer, regularly offering water to your child is an excellent habit.
Indeed, by sweating, he "loses" more water than in winter. It is therefore advisable to give him the equivalent of a bottle (200 ml to 250 ml) of water per day, unless it is very hot. In that case, don't hesitate to offer him more to drink.
Good to know: if you are breastfeeding your child, it is not necessary to give them extra water. It is enough that they can nurse on demand.
5 tips to get a baby to drink water
- Use a plastic cup with handles, it's fun.
- Try it with a small spoon
- Use a well-rinsed Doliprane dropper.
- Add a little pure water to his fruit compotes and vegetable purees
- Avoid flavored waters (like strawberry etc.), which are often sweetened, as Baby may only want to drink that and refuse "normal" water.
And above all, be extra patient and relax; unless there's extreme heat or a fever, a baby will never let itself die of thirst and will drink if it needs to! :-)
